Best thing ever since punk was invented: international compilations. Where else would up-and-coming – or is the term “stuck-in-the-rehearsal-room”? – bands get a chance to be listened to by a larger audience than their friends, even though they lack a record deal?! And it’s not just new listeners from their hood: Music fans from all over the world get a chance for a sonic, irony-free impression of small town German bands like „Rüpelrotze“ oder „Rattenpisse“ (and a terrific quiz trying to find out what these band names might mean). Networking via the WWW will globally unite the punk rock community. Even if you’re more on the consumer side of music, you get to discover lots of new, fresh bands that your friends don’t know about. Money isn’t an issue, either, since many of these compilations come as free downloads – it’s modern technology, stupid! Plus, they won’t add to world-destroying plastic trash piles. So both mother nature and the crust punk from your local park are pleased. The latter will probably invest the money he saved into another can of cheapskate beer. Definitely a win-win-win situation.
Now go and enjoy „FTNED“ #6.

A little low-fi garage punk rock manual for anarchists – or not.
DoubleClick on the title and you get to the band website.
Officer Down
Evesham - UK
This one starts as a folk song, grows into a good combo of singalong punk rock and hardcore, and then it ends with a melancholic piano.

Jack Flash
Toowoomba - Australia
Folk punk from Australia. It starts slowly, ends slowly, and in between you get roughed up. Which makes sense, since the song is about boxing.

Smart Cops
- Italy
Italian is a wonderful language. Unfortunately, I only know a few single words. But a garage song as smart as this one makes listening double the fun.

Whoa, this is one dark song! Sound, voice, lyrics. Pitch black dark.

The Sentiments
Osnabrück - Germany
My, my, some day, your love is over, and if you deal with the break-up using a pop punk song, you’ll get over the worst of that pain.
DoubleClick on the title and you get to the band website.
The Franceens
York - UK
Why are those garage pieces always so freaking cool, after all?

The Public Divide
Chicago - US
Every time I listen to skacore, the urge to smash something is diverted through my dancing shoes. This is lightning rod music!

Saigoons
Düsseldorf - Germany
A pretty mimimalistic sound. That’s whatever happened to the 80s.

Slatwall

Listening to this, a great band from Sunderland comes to mind. This is definitely on the right track.

Lowell - US
A really pissed-off song about the global power America.

Anstalt
Vienna - Austria
Sophisticated is something else. And you’d do pop differently, too. So this does rather equal a kick in the ass.

Rock'n'Roll Television
Montreal - Canada
This sickly sweet surf pop punk will clog your brain in a nice way. Rock’n’Roll is awesome.

Raised by Apes
Vancouver - Canada
Sounds like a hidden track on a Fat Wreck compilation: It fits perfectly, but no one noticed.

The Affected
Ibbenbüren - Germany
Simply punk rock. Nothing more, but definitely nothing less, either.

A folk-inspired song about Conrad Brooks, who acted in many b-movies.

The Dutch Rudders
Zele - Belgium
I just love theses harmony-ridden songs that are as melodic as they are melancholic.

Neon Bone
Münster - Germany
Pop meets garage sound in Münster. A special thanks goes out to the weird, mid-song keyboard.
DoubleClick on the title and you get to the band website.
Still Insane
Quebec - Canada
Thrashing away in the background, lots of melody and harmonies in the front. That’s nothing new, but it’s nice time and time again.

Lifeline Lost
Helsinki - Finland
A second before drifting into metal, this song recollects itself and stays with punk rock. And that’s a good thing.

Oh, this is classical music! Classical punk music, that is.
