As 2013 crashes down with radio ariels transmitting speeches of war, unemployment and privatisation the sound coming from the gutters all over the world is still punk rock. From disillusioned kids in Orange County to imprisoned punks in Indonesia our language, our culture and our anger still remain. They may want us to turn our brains off and tune into reality talent shows on the tv while we're spoon fed numbing convenience till we return to work to pay for their lives of destruction but there is humanity in all of us which cannot be put out. The primal setting of a gig, whether in a venue or not, is enough to unite all those who feel they're worth more than they're told they are, who feel all is not right and that something smells rotten in the world. Once that flame is lit, it can't be put out.
Punk rock takes over, in how you view everything in the world. This is not the music of the privileged or the oppressor. This is the music of the underdog, of the struggle, of hope for a better world. It's what makes punk bands punk bands and not just rock bands. They say that anyone can play punk, but that's far from true. It takes anger, soul, passion and a will to change the world. You have to accept that you are up against it, not celebrated but purposely going out to piss people off, to shake things up. Listen to these bands from all over the world, and they have that all in common. We're all here to fuck our respective nations.
